Mother/BabySpecial Care Units

"There is a general feeling of respect, cooperation and trust between doctors and nurse in the unit, which makes it both a joy and priviledge to work here."    - Linda Seyfred, R.N.

In cases of high-risk pregnancy, there are certain services that your current hospital may not offer.  In such cases, your doctor might refer you to The Women's Hospital at Centennial's World-class Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit and Perinatal Special Care Unit.  These Units provide comprehensive care to both mother and child.  Best of all, the Women's Hospital at Centennial is part of the TriStar Network of Hospitals, so the referral and transition is always effortless and worry free.

Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

  • Fastest growing NICU in the state of Tennessee
  • Survival rate of 95% for babies over 23 weeks gestation.  Our smallest survivor weighed only 15oz., less than 1lb.
  • Working together as a team, our doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, clerks and technicians ensure the health and well being of babies, providing support and hope to patients, families and friends.
  • 40 bed Level III NICU cares for premature, sick and ventilator dependent infants.  In January, 2007, we applied for a Certificate of Need (CON) for 20 additional beds.
  • NICU is equippped with a respiratory department and a blood gass lab for any babies with a respiratory diagnosis.  Surgery can also be performed.
  • The NICU at The Women's Hospital has its own transport team to pick up sick or prematurely born babies from all the community hospitals in the TriStar family.
  • Neonatologists are in-house 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Parents can expect direct interaction with their physician while staying in the NICU.
  • There is a dedicated lactation consultant on hand to come in and assist with breasfeeding or breast pumps if needed.
  • There is a sense of longevity, quality, compassion, and teamwork with the experienced staff of the NICU.
  • A support group is available to NICU parents that aims to alleviate stress on families and answer questions.  The "Rockers" volunteer program can give your baby special attention if you can't be there.

Perinatal Special Care Unit

  • Specialized 25 bed perinatal unit with medical care provided by board certified perinatologists.
  • The nursing staff have extensive traning to care for women who are experiencing a wide range of pregnancy complications including diabetes, pregnancy induced hypetension, preterm labor and premature rupture of membranes.
